Supporting Community Work in Boulder and on University Hill

Members of Grace Lutheran lend both time and money to these and other organizations already doing good work in the community.  Working together with our neighbors we seek to care for all of God's creation and respond to the needs of the world.

GOD'S WORK. OUR HANDS.

Boulder churches take church outside the building

Each September ELCA Lutherans around the United States go out into the community in the spirit of service to others, to "be the church" outside the church walls.  In 2014, for God's Work Our Hands Sunday, Grace went into the community and participated in ministry with agencies and institutions, later coming together with Trinity, Atonement and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Churches for a time of worship and fellowship.  Grace Lutheran congregation split into four groups and brought a time of worship and music into four area nursing/retirement communities.  Time was spent with residents, as well as sprucing up the grounds.  In 2015, we partnered with Trinity Lutheran to feed the hungry with breakfast burritos, fruit, cookies and drinks at the Boulder Bandshell.

In September 2016, Grace will participate in God's Work. Our Hands. Sunday not on a particular Sunday, but throughout the month, by BUILDING BRIDGES into the community through four agencies:

  1. New Beginnings Church inside the Denver Women's Correctional Facility:  Members of Grace will travel to Denver in September to worship with the New Beginnings Community, to sing and hear the word of God with those serving time.
  2. Boulder PrideFest: Grace Lutheran, along with Christ the Servant Lutheran and Mount Calvary Lutheran, the three Reconciling in Christ Boulder Conference ELCA churches, will sit a table at the PrideFest on Sunday, September 11, in Boulder City Park, to be a sign of grace to the LGBTQ community.
  3. BOHO'S Women's Program: Boulder Outreach for Homeless Overflow houses a women's program at Grace throughout the year, and members bring food, fruit and cookies for hospitality to our guests.
  4. WALK FOR UNITY: The Lemon Tree Group's third annual walk is Sunday, September 25, 2016, 4:30pm.  The Lemon Tree Group brings together people from different communities in Boudler and around who do not usually meet and talk.  Walkers are encouraged to get to know each other in an effort to transcend differences through understanding.  The walk will begin at 4:30pm at Congregation Har HaShem, 3950 Baseline Road in Boulder.  Together will will walk next door to Atonement Lutheran Church and proceed down Baseline Road to the Islamic Center of Boulder.  The Walk will end at the Second Baptist Church of Boulder at 5300 Baseline Road.  At each stop there will be a short talk by the clergy, water, refreshments and restrooms.  The Walk will end with music by the Gospel Choir at the Second Baptist Church and then buses will be available to return people to their cars at Congregation Har HaShem.  You can join us at any point along the path.
